Using the Mobile App

Last updated May 4, 2026

Install the Hometrace mobile app on iOS or Android and use it for offline-first inspections in the field.

The Hometrace mobile app is built for inspectors working in the field: basements, attics, crawlspaces, and everywhere in between. It works offline, syncs automatically, and keeps your inspection data safe even when connectivity is spotty.

Install the app

Install on the device you'll use during walkthroughs:

Open the app and sign in with your Hometrace account email. The app uses the same magic-link sign-in as the web dashboard, so no password is needed.

Field work

Once you're signed in, the inspections you create on web are available on the mobile app and vice versa. The mobile app is where these features shine:

  • Voice AI: talk through findings as you walk, and Hometrace structures them into the right sections of your report. See Voice AI.
  • Photo Analysis AI: take photos as you go, and Hometrace analyzes them in the background and pre-fills suggested findings. See Photo Analysis AI.
  • Offline-first sync: keep working when you lose signal. The app saves locally and syncs automatically when you're back online.

Offline mode

The app detects when you're offline and continues working seamlessly. You can create inspections, take photos, and dictate findings, all stored locally until you reconnect.

Before heading to a site with limited connectivity:

  1. Open the app on WiFi.
  2. Let any pending sync finish.
  3. You're ready to work offline.

When you regain signal, the app syncs automatically in the background. A sync indicator in the app shows current status; pull down on the screen to trigger a manual sync.

Field tips

  • Battery: inspections can run 2–4 hours. Lower screen brightness, enable Low Power Mode for long days, and carry a portable charger.
  • Storage: photos are stored locally until synced. Confirm at least 2–3 GB free before a big inspection.
  • Photos: capture detailed close-ups of issues plus a wider context shot of each area, and use your device flashlight in dark spaces.
  • Notes: add notes immediately while details are fresh. Voice AI makes this fast.

Troubleshooting

App is slow or laggy: force close and reopen, check available storage, restart the device.

Photos not appearing: ensure camera permissions are granted (iOS: Settings → Hometrace → Camera; Android: long-press the app icon → App info → Permissions).

Sync not working: check your internet connection, try switching between WiFi and cellular, force close and reopen, contact support if errors persist.
