Pricing, Services, and Fees

Last updated May 4, 2026

Configure your inspection report price, add-on services, and any fees you charge on the final invoice.

Everything that shows up on the final invoice is configured at Settings → Payments → Services & Fees.

This is separate from the pricing logic on your public booking page (square-footage tiers, foundation adjustments, etc.). See Set Up Your Public Profile and Booking Page for that.

Default report price

The base price applied to a new inspection when no booking quote was attached. You can override it per inspection in the inspection wizard.

Add-on services

Optional services clients can purchase: sewer scope, mold sampling, radon, pool/spa, outbuildings, additional report copies, etc.

  • Add from Catalog: one-tap presets for common add-ons. Each comes with a sensible default price you can edit.
  • Add Custom Service: name, description, price for anything not in the catalog.

Add-ons selected on a booking request automatically flow through to the final invoice as separate line items.

Fees

Fees are percentage or flat amounts applied on top of the services subtotal. Two presets are available in the catalog:

  • Service Charge, a 3% percentage fee on the services subtotal. Useful if you want to pass through credit-card processing costs as a separate line item rather than baking them into prices.
  • State Tax, a generic state-level tax preset that defaults to 0%. Rename it (e.g. "Hawaii GET", "Texas Sales Tax") and set the rate that applies in your state. Most state sales taxes apply to the services subtotal; gross-receipts taxes like Hawaii's GET should be set to Running total so they include any pass-through fees.

You can also add a custom fee for surcharges or anything else. Each fee has:

  • Name: what shows on the invoice.
  • Type: Percentage or Flat.
  • Value: % or $.
  • Apply to (percentage fees only): Services subtotal (just services + add-ons) or Running total (services + any fees ordered above this one). Use Running total for taxes that apply to the full amount the customer pays.
  • Apply by default: auto-selected on new inspections.

Use the arrows to reorder. Fees apply in the order shown, and Running total fees see everything ordered above them, so put a processing fee above your sales tax if the tax should include it.

Tax and surcharge compliance is yours

Hometrace gives you the plumbing to add tax and surcharge line items, but does not validate their legality, accuracy, or remittance. Some states restrict or cap credit-card surcharges. Check your state's rules before enabling pass-through fees, and remit any taxes you collect yourself.

How this relates to Hometrace's platform fee

The 3.25% + $0.40 per transaction Hometrace charges is separate from anything you configure here. That fee covers Stripe's processing costs (you never pass it through manually) and is deducted automatically from each transaction. See Payment Processing for the full breakdown.
