Hometrace Voice AI records an inspector in the mobile app, transcribes the audio on the server, and proposes structured spec updates or findings in the relevant report location. A review sheet lets the inspector edit, reroute, exclude, or approve each item before saving.
Who it is for
For inspectors who want to document while they keep moving
Voice dictation is designed for active walkthroughs where typing interrupts the inspection. It supports spec values, spec-level notes, and subsection findings while preserving an explicit review step.
Spec updates
A spoken value can become a proposed update to the relevant material, age, condition, or other template field.
Structured findings
Longer observations can become findings at a spec or subsection, including a suggested type and target location.
Comment-library matching
When a dictated finding matches a saved template comment, Hometrace can link the proposed item to that standardized language.
How it works
From a recording to reviewed report items
Recording happens on the device. Transcription and parsing happen on Hometrace servers after the audio is submitted.
Record in the inspection
Open a live inspection in the iOS or Android app, tap the microphone, and describe the location and observation.
Submit for processing
Tap Done. The app sends the audio to Hometrace for transcription and parsing with the current report context.
Review what Hometrace heard
Check the proposed text, item type, severity, section, subsection, and spec location in the review sheet.
Correct and save
Edit or reroute individual items, turn off anything you do not want, or cancel the batch before it changes the report.
What to know
Recording can be offline; processing cannot
The mobile app can retain a recording while connectivity is unavailable, but transcription and AI parsing require a server connection and wait in the queue until the device is back online.
- Voice AI requires the Hometrace mobile app, an inspection in progress, and microphone permission.
- Transcription and parsing can mishear or misroute an observation and must be reviewed.
- Background noise, unclear location cues, and long mixed dictations can reduce accuracy.
- The audio upload has a size limit, so shorter focused recordings are safer than an extended monologue.
